Ready to Take the Next Step

Grant support to help you serve on a medical mission

Providers can apply for a grant to cover a portion of participation fees for a qualifying medical mission trip, whether through one of our trusted global nonprofit partners or a mission of their own choosing. Once approved, the CHG Healthcare Foundation will pay the partnering nonprofit directly, allowing you to focus on what matters most: delivering care, comfort, and compassion.

What our providers say

“The grant eased my financial burden and validated the importance of volunteering. The process was smooth, well-organized, and I would absolutely recommend working with the foundation to any healthcare provider interested in making an impact.”

Medical mission trip FAQ

Find quick answers to your most common questions.

Yes. You must be a licensed/certified healthcare professional to attend a medical mission trip with the CHG Healthcare Foundation or one of its partner organizations. This ensures that each mission trip is staffed with qualified providers who can make an immediate impact.

This will depend on the organization hosting the trip, but most of our nonprofit partners require you to apply several months before departure. Applications for a grant from the CHG Healthcare Foundation should be submitted at least 30 days before the trip takes place and can be submitted here. You may submit an application up to 90 days before the trip.

The process to apply for a medical mission trip varies depending on the organization hosting the trip. We recommend reaching out to the host organization with any questions. Information on how to apply for a grant from the CHG Healthcare Foundation can be found on our grants page here.

No. Our mission is to support the volunteer passions of medical providers. Through our grant programs, we donate funds to eligible nonprofit organizations to help cover a portion of your program costs for the trip. If you need financial assistance to join a trip, we encourage you to apply for an Individual Provider Grant here.

Trip costs vary by destination, trip length, and other factors, but they generally fall into three areas:

  • Program costs: Food, ground transportation, and lodging while in-country.
  • Transportation costs: Flights and other travel from your home to the mission site.
  • Personal costs: Vaccinations, passports/visas, travel insurance, malpractice insurance, trip extensions, and personal incidentals.

Yes! If you’ve found a medical mission trip through another nonprofit organization but need help covering costs, you may be eligible to apply for an Individual Provider Grant from the CHG Healthcare Foundation. Learn more about our grants here.

We carefully vet every partner through research, charity evaluation tools, participant feedback, and on-site visits. We only partner with nonprofit organizations that have a proven record of success delivering sustainable healthcare to underserved communities.

Every medical mission trip is different, but most trips include an open clinic where local communities can come to receive healthcare treatment and education. The work is often challenging, but the impact can change lives,  for both patients and providers.

Most medical mission trips are a week long, but trip length can vary by location and need. Yes, you are welcome to extend your stay at your own expense once the medical mission trip is over.

This will depend on the organization hosting the trip. Some organizations welcome guests while others do not. We recommend reaching out to the host organization with any questions.
